We have all heard that more then once from our doctor, family member or friends that by exercising daily we can lead a healthier lifestyle. However, how many of us actually do so? There is an exercise to match everyones needs and physical abilities - while some of us like and can work out with heavy weights, treadmills and other specialized gym equipment - others go for the machine free exercise such as yoga and pilates.

What is Yoga Exercise?

Yoga exercise is a machine free exercise that works with your mind to control your bodys functions. Through yoga exercise you can train and tone your body and mind through meditation.

There are many types of yoga exercise; each of these exercises works with a targeted part of your body and due to their complexity all of these exercises need professional training or guidance before one can practice unsupervised.

When to Practice Yoga Exercise and for How Long?

All exercises are best practiced in the morning, as it is the best time to revitalize both your body and mind. However, any time of the day is good as long as you can dedicate yourself to the yoga exercise.

Yoga exercise practice need between 20 to 45 minutes in order to complete a full cycle and for it to show any long term benefits. When exercising, the body needs approximately 20 minutes to realize that is in exercise mode and to take the practice seriously or else it will discard it as any normal daily activity. Even when you are doing other types of exercise such as power walking or jogging, it is always advised that you start with a 20 minutes warm up for that very reason.

Helpful Tips for Yoga Exercise

Here are some helpful tips, which will bring out the best in your yoga exercise:

* Wear loose/comfortable clothes when exercising
* Get a non slip mat to exercise on
* Get a cotton or wool blanket for your exercise practice
* Get a wooden or foam block even a phone book will do the trick

In the rainy northwest, thinking of the dry southwestern desert...
Oregonians pride themselves on "loving the rain" here (definitely a "love it or leave it" mentality!) but, for those of us who haven't grown up in it, the winters here can be a little bit difficult sometimes. Makes me long for the desert, like these earrings, which feature horn, moonstone, turquoise and sterling silver. It takes little more for my own personal visions to fill in with cacti, joshua trees and rattlers, and the color of the horn brings to mind the best shade of worn-in cowboy boot
